American Obesity

Is the American lifestyle the cause of its obesity? It certainly does not help. Americans live a sedentary lifestyle. They have had less need to exercise than they have in the past. They also eat a diet that is rich in fats and calories. The combination of a calorie rich diet and the lack of exercise leads to the country’s expanding waist lines. A direct correlation exists between the American lifestyle and the American obesity epidemic. It does not take long to figure out why this is. The inhabitants of the country have done little to change the expanding waist line.

American food tends to be cooked in grease or on the grill. The national dish, the Hamburger, is one of the worst offenders. It is usually served with a side dish that is prepared by being dipped in boiling oil. The hamburger and french fry combination is tasty, but it is also high in fat and cholesterol. The average person in the United States consumers many pounds of ground beef and potatoes in this fashion per year.

Modern inventions, the computer and the television, have not increase the willingness of Americans to move. They do not even have to go to a store any more to find their favorite products. Many individuals still enjoy shopping, but these individuals can get the same products online, often at lower prices.

All of these factors contribute to the expanding waistline of US citizens, and subsequently the growing popularity of fad diets like the HCG diet. While lifestyle contributes to the obesity problem, the biggest problem is the lack of willingness on the part of the individual to do something about it. Even a simple half hour walk each day can help the body burn calories more efficiently. The best exercise is the one that the person does. The reader who wants to cut down on his waistline and improve his overall health needs to do something about it now. He certainly wants to do something about it before his first heart attack.
